FAN CLUB NEWSLETTER

Lyn Stevens,
Glitter Band Official Fan Club,
PO Box 315, London E18 2RL                      August to October 1975

Hello!

Well, summer is here and the Fan Club has been in existence for almost a year now.  So those of you who joined last year will see at the end of the letter what you have to do to rejoin for the next year.

The Band have been very busy recently as you will know.  First of all there was the tour in May through to June, and then off to Australia and New Zealand, part of this tour was with Gary and the rest on their own and by all accounts they had a great time.  Then the next tour started on July 24th (it was originally due to start on the 20th but as usual, things often are altered at the last moment - no fault of the Band) and this goes on to the end of August or thereabouts.

July 26 Pier Pavilion, Felixstowe     Aug 16 Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone
Aug   3 Princess Theatre, Torquay         18 Corn Exchange, Bury St Edmunds
4 Plymouth Guild Hall               21 Dixy Land, Colwyn Bay
5 Village Bowl, Bournemouth         22 Barry Mem. Hall, Barry Island
8 Flamingo, Hereford                23 Glen Ballroom, Llanelli
10 Palace Lido, Isle of Man
     12 Pavilion, West Runton, N'folk
     14 Tiffany's, Gt. Yarmouth
     15 Pier Pavilion, Hastings

August 24th to September 24th - Holiday Period.

Then there is another tour starting around September 26th but I have no info on that for the time being but as usual send in a large s.a.e. for when I have details.  Some of you have already sent in a s.a.e. for the August tour but as this info is now in the newsletter, I will send on the Sept. tour dates for you instead. O.K.

GLITTER SUIT COMPETITION

We were really overwhelmed by all the wonderful entries that were sent in for this competition.  Most of you had put in a great deal of work and the Band had a very difficult job in selecting the winners.  Anyway, in the end they did manage to pick them out and here are the results:-

More about this next time.

S.A.E.'s

As you know, it is quite likely that the postage will go up again soon, and so in view of the cost of running the  Fan Club (which is fantastic) please remember to send me a stamped, addressed envelope when you want a reply, and overseas members remember to send an International Reply Coupon (I.R.C.).  There are 4,000 members in the Fan Club so you can see what it costs in postage, especially to send out the newsletters.  You will see on the Renewal Slip at the end of the letter that I am asking for stamps to cover the newsletters and I suspect more and more Clubs of all kinds will be doing this in future if they are to keep going.  My sincere apologies for this but I know you will want to keep the Fan Club going as much as I do.

LETTER FROM JOHN

Don't scream all at once girls, - I know the lads in the Fan Club do not mind who in the Band writes the letter, but anyway, this time I had a chat with John who thought it was a great idea to get a few of his well chosen words over to you in this way, as he is such an awful letter writer really.  Not that he writes awful letters, but just that he never gets around to them, as with all the others in the Band, these days.

"Hello to you all from John Terence Springate. Yes, you see I do have a middle name, for all of you who have asked Lyn.  She had a great list of questions to put to me which apparently you have asked from time to time and so I will do my best to get through them.  Take a deep breath and here goes - I am right-handed and I smoke, Benson and Hedges or anybody else's if I can.  I like most animals but do not have any pets of my own at the moment.  I like short brown hair for girls, but am not bothered as I like them all.  My favourite T.V. programme is Batman (!!!) I do not support any one football team although I enjoy watching a good game on the tele.  I enjoy swimming too.  I live at home with my parents (its cheaper!) in a flat and as I was born in London I suppose I like the town better but I do like some time in the country to unwind.  Mr fave after shave is "Au Savage" but I do not mind borrowing the others' when I get the chance.  I cannot imagine what I would have been if not in this business as it is what I have always wanted to do and there has been no time for anything else.  My favourite non-alcoholic drink is tea.  Religion C/E.  I have been with the Band now for nearly three years.  Is that the lot Lyn? Great.  Now for my message to the Fan Club members.  We have had a great time this year meeting all the fans - there is nothing quite like a live show for the atmosphere and warmth that comes across from the audience.  We have just returned from New Zealand and Australia and enjoyed meeting the Fans there too so now we all look forward to meeting our Fans in the U.K. Scandinavia and so on.  So until then all the very best to all of you and whatever you do "keep Glittering".          John Springate

PEN FRIEND LIST

This has been completed and for the time being I am not accepting anymore name for addition as it is quite long.  A copy will be included with the newsletter to all those names on the list, and anyone else interested will be sent one if they write and ask me.

RENEWAL REMINDER

It is now time to start renewing membership for the Fan Club.  Those of you who joined in July, August, September and October 1974 fill in the slip at the bottom of the page and send it back to me with a Postal Order for 70p plus an addressed foolscap envelope and four second class stamps (for future newsletters).  Overseas members send an International Money Order or cheque for £1.50 sterling, plus four I.R.C.'s.

On renewal you will receive a new membership card, a new Fan Club Biogram, a new group photo of the Band and a Fan Club Badge.  (Further Badges can be bought separately for 10p).  If you are not quite sure when you joined the Fan Club but think it is around this time let me have your full name and address so that I can check in the files for you.

PARR HALL, WARRINGTON

I have had to add a special note here as the Band mentioned it to me.  I had so many letters from disappointed Fans that the Band could not make it that I took them up to show Mike.  They were all very upset too, as well as the Fans and wish me to say how really sorry they are about it.  The transport broke down and they could not get something else fixed up to be on time for the show.  Mike and Tony had gone on earlier and were waiting for the others and worrying like mad.  So all in all, that was a very unhappy experience for all concerned, including me, when I heard about it as I know how the Fans felt.  Anyway, you know that the Band do care about it and send on their sincere apologies.  They will hope to make up for it in some other way some other time.
